The AGM was well attended and our guest speaker  Peter Waine, Chairman CPRE, gave an inspiring speech. The National Chairman for CPRE, Peter Waine, gave a thorough and enthusiastic talk on CPRE’s national objectives and vision of what type of countryside we would like and work towards in 2026 (our centenary year) and then answered many questions. The President thanked him and presented him with local author Tracy Chevalier’s new novel ‘Remarkable Creatures’.
Date of the next AGM is Saturday 20th November.

Summary of Peter Waine’s presentation:

CPRE aims to bring discipline to urban and countryside planning issues so that we can have balance in an otherwise crowded island. CPRE has published a bold statement and vision of what type of countryside we would like and work towards in 2026-our centenary year. Some of the principal goals include;

Ÿ
Reinvigorated, democratic planning system
Ÿ
Walk and cycle more
Ÿ
Connect town and country
Ÿ
Eat more locally produced food
Ÿ
Farmers paid to be custodians of the countryside
Ÿ
More woodland, green corridors, better coastal management
Ÿ
End litter and fly tipping
Ÿ
Brownfield sites developed before greenfield sites.
