CPRE Dorset People
Robin Bawtree
The Executive Director for the Dorset Branch of the CPRE
Robin Bawtree was born in Devon, brought up in Surrey and after further years in Devon and abroad came to live on the Dorset/Somerset border twenty years ago when his children went to school in the area. Robin, who retired from the Royal Navy in 1995, spent 7 years working in London as Clerk to a City Livery Company and as Secretary to the Friends of St Paul’s Cathedral. At the end of 2004 he decided to look for a local part time job.
Robin is enthusiastic about his new post having lived most of his life in the country. “I really consider myself to be a countryman at heart”, he says, “and welcome the opportunity to try and continue the good work of my predecessors in preserving and protecting our beautiful county against the ravages of modern technology and development. I am particularly concerned about litter which defaces our highways, roads and lanes and I am also very keen to learn more about renewable energy as we have got to act now to protect the environment”.
But Robin says no campaign can ever be successful without the active participation of likeminded people, so will be looking forward to meeting members of Town and Parish Councils as well as those from the six CPRE Groups within the Dorset Branch. “Having recently worked in two membership organisations I know how important it is to enlist the support of new members especially younger ones who will have to live in our country after we have gone”.
