OBJECTIVES and CAMPAIGNS

Sutton Poyntz

Objectives

1. To protect the Green Belt and present the optimum response to the S.E. Dorset Sub-Regional Plan.

2. To influence the developing Local Framework Plans in each Local Authority.

3. To contribute to improving the key elements of the Dorset Local Transport Plans.

4. To strengthen the management of the two Dorset Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

5. To contribute constructively to the County Waste Plan.

Campaigns

1. To oppose inappropriately sited industrial wind turbines. Up to five massive wind farms are likely to be proposed all over Dorset countryside, which will be a visual and noise blight. They will be up to 330 feet high – higher than any in Cornwall.

2. To oppose the Weymouth Orange Route. The road is proposed through a Site of Special Scientific Interest and the Consultants we commissioned have shown that it will not bring the benefits claimed by the County Council.

3. To protect the Green Belt around Poole and Bournemouth. The Regional Plan and the County Structure Plan are considering building houses in the Green Belt and thus breaching this rural protection.

4. To oppose over-development of Bournemouth Airport. Expansion of flights by up to ten times are being considered, but airlines get an unfair Government subsidy since they do not have to pay fuel & energy tax, or VAT on tickets – unlike your car. Aircraft will provide heavy noise and spent fuel pollution over 11 square kilometres.

5. To mount an effective County anti-litter campaign. Litter is a serious environmental and visual hazard. Dorset CPRE has facilitated the setting up of a committee linking County, District and Parish Councils in piloting and implementing a practical campaign.
